I hope this was an authorized posting of the PD11 beta.
Fortunately the engine kept on going and the UI could be restarted, but still. The UI crashed (first time I've ever seen it do that) while in the middle of a defrag. 256Gb SSD with TRIM? >$700.Įdit: Definitely not ready for primetime. 1.5TB SATA with PD and a 5-year warranty: a little over $100.
PD's great for most corporate enviromments and set-and-forget home users, but it doesn't exactly have a gigantic feature set and in fact I wouldn't honestly say it's too much better than several free offerings such as Piriform's Defraggler.Īs for the SSD comment - hilarious. Plus, it's algorithm only sorts files based on layout.ini then last accessed - programs like MyDefrag allow you to fully specify directories or file masks as well as several different defragmentation strategies, including moving files to the end of the disk (PD can't do that) if you want to get them out of the way. One happened when I tried to do a boot defrag and had it unload one of my drives, whereupon the program popped a dialog telling me that I "appear to have lost a drive!" (WTF?) and then quit out.
Tried the trial version of v11 (I now feel I must stress this for Dingleberry Pudendaloo's benefit) and already noticed a couple of bugs. Has always been the most solid defragger out there. You will see Raxco are diversifying their product range greatly & for good reason, defragging will soon be a thing of the past & on Linux you don't need to & many now argue that it's no longer needed on windows & certainly not to the degree that Racxo, O&O, & Diskeeper would like you to believe.
It allows you to monitor the important parts of your disk drives both HDD and SSD, and give warning you if data loss is possible and if their condition is getting worse.I updated this program today - It does a great job of defragging but: Looking in Task Manager after reading the remarks below it actually has 3 processes running, using in total around 21 meg of RAM - Auto update is off everything that can be un-checked is un-checked, SMART is also off - How can a defragger justify running 3 Windows processes while it's doing nothing?Įdit: Windows use of RAM is not simplistic, feeling that as you have 16 GIG you can do as you like does not work in practice, if it did life would be far simpler - if you are still on 32 Bit & most are your stuck with 3 GIG tops & memory management that harks back almost 20 years - Bottom line is the less RAM used on idle the better your experience will be, whether or not a program that's using 21 Meg of RAM at idle & pushing 240 GIG of space is going to speed Windows up will be the subject of much conjecture, add to that CPU cycles by Windows services - I have a multiple license for PD (and using it as I type) but are not going to defend the undefenable - Raxco could do better, probably by starting again rather than patching a program that’s been much the same for years. monitoring technology and new compatibility for Windows 10.
PerfectDisk Server comes with advanced S.M.A.R.T. It also helps you to recovers disk space by detecting and removing duplicate files and temporary files.
